FAQ

Short answers about how the tools work and what they can and can't do.

Basics

What is ChunkScout?
ChunkScout is a free set of Minecraft seed tools: an interactive seed map plus finders for villages, strongholds, slime chunks, biomes and every other structure, and utilities like the nether portal calculator. Enter a seed and see what the world will generate before you play it.
How accurate are the results?
Finders marked “Exact” use the same world-generation algorithms as the game (via the cubiomes library compiled to WebAssembly), so positions match in-game. “Approximate” means within a few blocks. “Java only” means the Bedrock placement algorithm is not implemented yet and results are only valid for Java Edition — we never show guessed Bedrock data.
How do I find my world's seed?
Java: open the world and run /seed in chat (cheats or single-player). Bedrock: open the world settings — the seed is shown under Game settings. You can also import a Java level.dat on the seed map with “Load from save”.
Can I use a text seed like “Herobrine”?
Yes. Text seeds are converted the same way the game does it: both editions hash text with String.hashCode() (a 32-bit value), so a text seed gives the same number on Java and Bedrock. If your text is a valid integer it is used as the numeric seed directly. Use the Seed Converter tool to see the numeric value.

Java vs Bedrock

Does it work for Bedrock Edition?
Biomes and most structures are supported for Bedrock 1.18+, and slime chunks use Bedrock's own seed-independent algorithm. A few structure types still use a Java-only placement; those finders show a “Java only” badge when Bedrock is selected.
Are Java and Bedrock worlds the same for the same seed?
Since 1.18 the terrain and biomes are generated by the same noise, so the landscape matches. Structure placement uses a different random algorithm on Bedrock, so structures land in different places even though the biomes match. (Bedrock has used full 64-bit seeds since 1.18.30.)
Which versions are supported?
Java 1.7 through 26.3 (including Large Biomes for 1.18+) and Bedrock 1.18 through 26.3 — Minecraft switched to year-based version numbers, so 26.3 is the latest release. If a brand-new version isn't mapped by the engine yet it is hidden rather than guessed.

Using the seed map

Are there keyboard shortcuts?
Yes: arrow keys pan, + and − zoom, R picks a random seed, / focuses the search box and Esc closes popups or the AI drawer.
How do I share a map view?
Use “Copy link”. The URL carries the seed, edition, version, dimension, position, zoom and enabled layers, so anyone opening it sees exactly what you see. “Download PNG” exports the current view as an image.
Can I add my own markers?
Right-click (or long-press on touch) anywhere on the map to add a named, colored marker. Markers are saved in your browser per seed. You can also tick structures as “completed” to keep track of what you've visited.
Why can't I find dungeons, caves, ravines or ore veins?
Those are placed by the chunk decorator, which the engine does not simulate yet. Rather than show inaccurate positions we leave them out. They are on the roadmap.

AI assistant

What can the AI assistant do?
You can ask things like “where's the nearest village to spawn?”, “what biome is at 1200, −340?” or “list the strongholds”. The assistant calls the same finders as the map, answers with coordinates, and can move the map to the location for you.
Does the assistant see my world?
It only receives the seed, edition and version you have selected plus the question you type. No world files are uploaded.

Privacy & cost

Is ChunkScout free?
Yes. There are no accounts and no paid tiers. World generation runs in your browser, which keeps our costs — and your data exposure — tiny.
What data do you store?
Your markers, completed checkboxes and recent seeds live in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. See the Privacy page for details.
