Privacy policy

ChunkScout works without an account and keeps world generation in your browser. This page explains what we process, which cookies are used, how advertising works on the free plan, and your rights.
Log files
Like most websites, our server records standard request logs: IP address, browser type, requested URL, referring page and timestamp. We use them to keep the service running, fix errors and stop abuse. They are not linked to your account or combined with other data, and are kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service.
Cookies and local storage
Most of your settings never leave your browser. We keep these in local storage:
- the seed, edition, version and map position (also in the page URL), and recent seeds;
- markers, “completed” checkboxes and, if you are not signed in, your bookmarks;
- your light/dark theme.
“Load from save” reads the save file in your browser to extract the seed; it is not uploaded. We set these cookies:
- cs_device (first-party, 1 year) — an anonymous, signed device ID used for the free AI answer limit.
- authjs.* (first-party, session) — keeps you signed in, only if you sign in.
The third-party services below may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the maps and tools keep working without them.
Advertising
The free plan shows ads served by Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), personalised ads are shown only after you give consent through Google’s consent message.
- Pro subscribers see no ads, and no ad scripts are loaded for them.
If an ad blocker is detected we show our own promotion in the ad space and record an anonymous count (no identifiers) so we know how often it happens.
Other third-party services
- Sign-in (Google, Facebook, X) — optional. The provider shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We never see your password.
- Stripe — processes Pro payments. Card details are entered on Stripe’s pages and never reach our servers; we keep only the subscription status and a Stripe customer reference. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
- AI model providers — when you use the AI assistant, your question and the selected seed, edition and version are forwarded to an AI model provider to generate the reply. Please don’t include personal information in your questions.
- Cloudflare — delivers the site and protects it from attacks; it processes request data such as your IP address.
We don’t use analytics trackers or sell personal data.
Accounts and what we store
If you sign in, we store your profile (name, email, picture), your saved seeds and bookmarks, daily-challenge progress and cosmetic rewards, and your plan. For the AI answer limit we keep a salted hash of your device and IP address, never the raw values.
Data retention
- Server logs: only as long as needed to run and secure the service.
- AI usage records: hashed, kept for answer limits and cost control.
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email us from the address you signed in with and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
ChunkScout is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Sign-in and payments are for users old enough to consent under their local law. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
