How to use the Dungeon Finder
Dungeons are small cobblestone rooms with a zombie, skeleton or spider spawner and up to two chests, hidden next to caves. The Dungeon Finder runs the game's own dungeon placement for your seed against the world's terrain and caves, so you get the spawner's exact X, Y and Z, its mob, how many chests it has, and which dungeons sit close enough together for a double-spawner XP farm.
- Type or paste your seed and pick a Java version from 1.18 to 26.3; dungeons are switched on and the map zooms in to block level.
- Each spawner icon shows the mob on hover. Click it for X Y Z, chest count, room size and whether another spawner is within 32 blocks.
- Use “Nearest” to list the closest dungeons to spawn or to your own X Z, then copy a /tp command that lands you on top of the spawner.
- Dig down to the Y shown: almost every dungeon the finder shows sits below Y 0, next to a deep cave.
How dungeons generate
Every chunk gets 10 dungeon attempts at any height from Y 0 to 319 and 4 more deep ones from Y -58 to -1. An attempt only becomes a dungeon when the room's whole floor and ceiling are solid and its walls have between one and five openings into a cave, which is why dungeons always connect to a cave and most attempts fail.
The room is 5×5, 5×7 or 7×7 inside, walled with cobblestone and mossy cobblestone. Its spawner is a zombie half of the time and a skeleton or spider a quarter each. Up to two chests sit against a wall; each has loot such as saddles, name tags, music discs, enchanted books and, rarely, an enchanted golden apple.
Double dungeons and XP farms
A spawner only works while a player stands within 16 blocks of it, so two spawners less than 32 blocks apart can run from one AFK spot. The finder flags those pairs as double dungeons; for a skeleton or zombie XP farm, look for a double with the same mob.

Questions
Is the Dungeon Finder accurate?
We compared it with worlds generated by the official Java 26.3 server (two seeds, twelve areas of 256×256 blocks, 50 real dungeons): 86% of the dungeons it shows are really there, it finds 76% of all dungeons, and the spawner mob was right every time. The positions it tries are exact; the misses come from caves the model can only approximate.
Does it work for Bedrock?
No. Bedrock places dungeons with a different random generator, so the finder shows Java Edition only.
Why are there no dungeons between Y 0 and sea level?
A dungeon needs between one and five openings into a cave. Between Y 0 and sea level the game floods most caves with water (aquifers), and a flooded opening doesn't count, so in tests almost every room the model expected there didn't exist. The finder leaves them out instead of guessing; a few real ones there are missed.
What's the best dungeon for an XP farm?
A skeleton or zombie spawner, ideally a double with another spawner within 32 blocks. Spider spawners make poor XP farms because spiders are hard to funnel.
Which versions are supported?
Java 1.18 to 26.3, the versions with the current cave generation. Older versions are not simulated.
