How to use the Enchanted Golden Apple Finder

Enchanted golden apples can't be crafted, so the only way to get one is to find it in a chest. This finder generates the chest loot of every desert temple and ruined portal in your seed with the game's own loot tables and marks the ones that hold a notch apple.

  1. Enter your seed and a Java version from 1.18 to 26.3.
  2. Every marker is a structure whose chests contain at least one enchanted golden apple; zoom out to scan a wide area.
  3. Click a marker to see the full chest contents and copy the coordinates or a /tp command.

Where enchanted golden apples spawn

Notch apples appear in desert temple chests (each temple has four), ruined portal chests, dungeons, mineshaft minecarts, woodland mansions, ancient cities and bastion remnants. This finder covers desert temples and ruined portals, the two whose loot we have checked chest by chest against worlds generated by the official Java server.

Chest contents are decided by a loot seed stored in the chest when the structure generates, so the apple is there before anyone opens it. Opening a chest in a world from the same seed and version gives exactly what the finder shows.

What a notch apple does

Eating an enchanted golden apple gives Regeneration II for 20 seconds, Absorption IV (eight extra hearts) for two minutes, and Resistance and Fire Resistance for five minutes. That is enough to survive a wither fight, a raid captain's crossbows or a fall into lava while you swim out.

Save it for an emergency: it can't be crafted, so every apple you find is one of only a handful in your world. Curing a zombie villager only needs a plain golden apple, so don't spend a notch apple on that.

Questions

How accurate is it?

The chest loot for desert temples and ruined portals matched the official Java server item for item on 26.3 and 1.21.11. Other 1.18+ versions use the same simulation with their own loot tables.

Why so few markers?

Notch apples are rare. Across two test seeds about one desert-temple chest in 43 held one (so roughly one temple in 10, since temples have four chests) and about one ruined-portal chest in 70, so expect a handful per few thousand blocks.

Does it cover dungeons and mineshafts?

Not yet. Their chest positions depend on terrain the loot simulation doesn't place, so they are left out rather than guessed.

Does it work for Bedrock?

No, Java Edition only: Bedrock rolls loot differently.
