Pocket Pets

Ever wished you could bring a little buddy along on your adventures without worrying about it falling in lava? Pocket Pets lets you do exactly that. Your pets live right in your inventory, and while they're awake, they help you out.

There are 24 of them to collect. Each one gives you something different. The Bat helps you see in the dark. The Slime catches you when you fall and bounces you back up. The Allay grabs nearby items for you, and the Cat keeps creepers at a safe distance (cats really don't like creepers).

Works on Bedrock 1.26.60 and up. No experimental settings needed, and it runs in single player, on Realms and on servers.

Finding your pets

Most pets come from the mob they're based on. Defeat a bat and there's a small chance it leaves a Bat pet behind. It's rare, so finding one feels like a little win. Looting gives you a better chance.

Some mobs felt wrong to hunt, so those pets work differently. If you feed a fox some berries or tame a wolf, it starts to trust you (you'll see the hearts). From then on, there's a small chance each day that it leaves you its pet as a gift. The longer you wait, the more likely it gets, so you're never stuck waiting forever.

And if you're brave enough to take on the Ender Dragon or the Wither, they might drop one of the two rare Ascended pets.

Waking them up

Right-click a pet to wake it up, and again to put it to sleep. Awake pets have a little shine, and they work from anywhere in your inventory, so no need to keep them in your hand.

You can only have three awake at a time, which is where the fun comes in: you get to pick a team. Heading into an ocean monument? Squid, Turtle and Axolotl. Off to the Nether? Magma Cube, Blaze and Ghast. Just exploring? Maybe the Rabbit, the Bat and the Allay.

Watching them grow

Your pets level up the longer they stay awake, all the way to level 5, and they get a bit stronger each time. If you find a second copy of a pet you already have, sneak and right-click to feed it to yours for an instant level up. Hover over a pet to see its level and how close it is to the next one.

Commands

  • /pp:pets lists every pet, what it does and how to get it. Anyone can use this one.
  • /pp:give <pet> (or /pp:give all) gives you pets. Operators only, handy for creative worlds.
  • /pp:gifts makes every befriended mob leave its gift right away. Operators only.

Installing

Open the .mcaddon file and Minecraft takes care of the rest. Then turn on the Pocket Pets behavior pack in your world settings. If you're updating from an older version, remove the old one first under Settings > Storage, so no leftover files cause trouble.

A few things to know

  • Gifts are checked when a new Minecraft day starts, and only for befriended mobs in loaded areas, so stay nearby if you're hoping for one.
  • Only your first three awake pets count, and two copies of the same pet don't stack.
  • If you also play with my Ore Overhaul add-on, its tougher Ascending Dragons and Withers drop the Ascended pets more often. It's completely optional.

Thanks for checking out Pocket Pets! If you find a bug or have an idea for a new pet, let me know in the comments.

How to install

  1. Download the file below. On iOS or Android, open it from your Downloads with Minecraft; on Windows, double-click it.
  2. Minecraft imports the pack automatically. Enable it in your world’s settings under Behavior Packs or Resource Packs; an add-on usually needs both.
  3. Playing on a Realm or server? Everyone needs the same packs, and the host has to enable them.
  4. Starting a new world? Choose its seed first: the Seed Map shows villages, structures and biomes near spawn for any Bedrock seed.
