How to use the Nether Fortress Finder
Nether fortresses share their structure regions with bastion remnants (1.16+). Use this finder to get the Nether coordinates of the nearest fortress, and remember that one Nether block equals eight Overworld blocks.
- Type or paste your seed in the seed box (numbers and text seeds both work), then pick your edition and version.
- Nether fortresses are marked on the map automatically. Drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, and hover an icon to see its coordinates.
- Click an icon to copy the coordinates or a ready-made /tp command, and tick "Completed" to keep track of the ones you have visited.
- Use the "Nearest" list in the sidebar to jump straight to the closest ones to spawn or to any X/Z you enter.
Where fortresses generate
Since 1.16, Java Edition splits the Nether into regions of 27×27 chunks with a 4-chunk separation. Each region gets one structure: a nether fortress or a bastion remnant. Fortresses can generate in any Nether biome, and their corridors and bridges sprawl for well over a hundred blocks from the start piece, roughly between Y 48 and Y 70.
Because bastions win most regions, fortresses in 1.16+ are rarer than they were in 1.14 and older. A fortress within a few hundred Nether blocks of your portal is a good find, and the map lists them sorted by distance.
Why you need one
Fortresses are the only source of blazes (from spawners), which drop blaze rods for brewing stands and Eyes of Ender. Wither skeletons spawn anywhere inside the fortress bounding box and drop skulls for summoning the Wither. Nether wart grows in the stairwell gardens, and chests can hold diamonds, golden horse armor, saddles and the rib armor trim smithing template.
Planning the trip
Read the fortress coordinates on the Nether map, then divide by 8 if you want to place a matching Overworld portal, or use the Nether Portal Calculator. A short tunnel at the fortress's Y level is safer than walking across lava oceans.

How do I convert fortress coordinates to the Overworld?
Multiply the Nether X and Z by 8 to get the matching Overworld coordinates, or use the Nether Portal Calculator tool to plan a linked portal.
Why is a fortress not where the map says?
The marker is the fortress's starting point. Fortresses are large and sprawl in one direction from there, so fly or tunnel around the marker at Y 48–70 to find the bridges.
Are fortresses exact on Bedrock?
Yes. The finder implements Bedrock's own Nether placement, so choose Bedrock in the edition selector for Bedrock coordinates.
Where do blaze spawners generate?
Blaze spawners sit on small balconies or in rooms off the bridges, usually one or two per fortress. Look for the raised platforms with stairs.
What command finds a fortress?
With cheats on, /locate structure minecraft:fortress on Java or /locate structure fortress on Bedrock, while you are in the Nether.
