Vanilla Keep Inventory makes death meaningless. Losing everything makes it painful. Better Keep Inventory offers a middle ground: you keep the gear you worked hard for, while the rest of your items stay behind with a Soul Allay that you must return to collect.

Fully compatible with achievements, so you can use it in your main survival world.

HOW IT WORKS

When you die:

  1. Your gear stays with you. Tools, weapons, armor, elytra, shields, bows, crossbows, tridents, maces, fishing rods, shears, brushes, compasses, shulker boxes, and bundles are kept. Armor you are wearing always stays on.

  2. Everything else goes to a Soul Allay. Blocks, food, ores, and other loot are stored by a Soul Allay that appears at your death location, carrying a chest.

  3. Death still costs something.

  • Your gear loses 15% durability (12.5%, 10%, or 7.5% with Unbreaking I, II, or III). Your gear is never destroyed outright.
  • Items with Curse of Vanishing are destroyed.
  • You keep half of your XP.

THE SOUL ALLAY

  • Cannot be killed. Immune to damage, fire, and lava. If you die in the void, it waits safely at the bottom  of the world.
  • Never despawns. Your items wait for you for as long as it takes.
  • Shows its owner. Its name tag displays "Player's Items", making it easy to spot from a distance.
  • Shows its location. When you respawn, the chat displays its exact coordinates.
  • Follows you once you get close.
  • Returns your items to their original slots. Interact with it or hit it to retrieve your items, including offhand items. Anything that does not fit in your inventory drops at your feet.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Keep Inventory is enabled automatically. You do not need to enable cheats.

  • Only affects players in Survival and Adventure mode.

  • Tools and armor from other add-ons are also kept, provided they use the standard tool and armor tags.

  • Multiplayer: By default, anyone can collect a Soul Allay. Server owners can restrict collection to the player who died.

How to install

  1. Download the file below. On iOS or Android, open it from your Downloads with Minecraft; on Windows, double-click it.
  2. Minecraft imports the pack automatically. Enable it in your world’s settings under Behavior Packs or Resource Packs; an add-on usually needs both.
  3. Playing on a Realm or server? Everyone needs the same packs, and the host has to enable them.
  4. Starting a new world? Choose its seed first: the Seed Map shows villages, structures and biomes near spawn for any Bedrock seed.
