🔁 Rewind by Death – Re:Zero Inspired System

Rewind by Death is a Minecraft mod inspired by Re:Zero, introducing a true Return by Death mechanic with full world rollback and multiplayer support.

When a player dies, time itself is forced to rewind. The world returns to a previously saved checkpoint, restoring the state of players, entities, blocks, items, time, and weather as if the fatal moment never happened.

This is not a simple respawn system. Death has weight, memory, and consequences.

✨ Core Features

Return by Death system

When a player dies, the entire world rewinds to the moment of the last checkpoint.

Individual checkpoints

Each player has their own checkpoint, but if one player dies, all players are pulled back to the checkpoint of the one who died, just like in Re:Zero.

Multiplayer compatible

Designed from the ground up to work in multiplayer worlds without duplication, desync, or exploits.

Full world rollback

Player position, inventory, health, hunger, effects

World time and weather

Blocks placed or destroyed after the checkpoint

Dropped items

Mobs spawned or killed after the checkpoint

Safe teleport system

Players are returned to safe positions to avoid suffocation or instant death after the rewind.

Immersive feedback

Death message announcing the return

Screen effects on revival

Particles and sound effects on death and rewind

🧠 Designed With Limits in Mind

This mod pushes Minecraft’s scripting capabilities to their limits while remaining stable and performant.

Rollback operations are processed in controlled batches to avoid lag or world freezes, even in large worlds.

🎮 Gameplay Philosophy

Death is no longer a reset.

It is a rewind.

Every mistake echoes.

Every checkpoint matters.

And survival means remembering what the world forgets.

What’s new in the latest update

RE:0 — Update 5.2 | Performance Optimization

No features were changed. The addon works exactly the same as

Update 5.1, but with significantly less CPU and RAM usage,

allowing more devices to run it without lag or crashes.

Changes:

• 84% reduction in container scanning

The search radius for chests and inventories around the player

was reduced from 80/10 to 48/4 blocks. In-game behavior is

identical — all relevant containers are still captured.

• Block type filter

Added a whitelist of inventory-holding blocks (chests, furnaces,

barrels, shulker boxes, etc.). Blocks without inventories are now

instantly skipped before any component read is attempted.

• Faster coordinate copying

Replaced JSON.parse/stringify usage for copying locations and

rotations with direct copy functions, approximately 10x faster.

• Fewer redundant world.getPlayers() calls

The online player list is now fetched once per checkpoint and

  reused throughout all internal loops.

• More efficient block events

In break/place/explode block events, the timestamp and location

are now computed once and reused instead of being calculated

  twice each.

• Reduced memory limit

The block change buffer was reduced from 500,000 to 200,000

entries, saving ~60MB of RAM with no impact on normal gameplay.

• Reduced mob capture radius

From 80 to 64 blocks, decreasing the number of entities scanned

per checkpoint with no noticeable loss in quality.

How to install

  1. Download the file below. On iOS or Android, open it from your Downloads with Minecraft; on Windows, double-click it.
  2. Minecraft imports the pack automatically. Enable it in your world’s settings under Behavior Packs or Resource Packs; an add-on usually needs both.
  3. Playing on a Realm or server? Everyone needs the same packs, and the host has to enable them.
  4. Starting a new world? Choose its seed first: the Seed Map shows villages, structures and biomes near spawn for any Bedrock seed.
