How to use the Mushroom Island Finder

The Mushroom Island Finder highlights every mushroom fields biome in your seed. These purple, mycelium-covered islands sit far out at sea and are among the rarest biomes in the game, so the finder opens zoomed out and dims everything else to make them easy to spot. Choose the closest one and set sail with its coordinates.

  1. Enter your seed and pick your edition and version. Mushroom fields are highlighted as soon as the map loads.
  2. Zoom out further if nothing shows up nearby: mushroom islands only form in open ocean.
  3. Hover the island to read its coordinates, or right-click (long-press on phones) to drop a marker.
  4. Turn on Shipwrecks or Ocean Ruins in the sidebar to plan stops on the way.

Why mushroom islands are so rare

Since 1.18 the game picks Overworld biomes from climate noises. Mushroom fields need the lowest continentalness of all, the value that otherwise makes deep ocean, so they only appear deep inside large oceans, usually far from spawn. Some seeds have one within a few hundred blocks; others need a long boat trip.

Before 1.18, mushroom islands came from a separate layer that turned small patches of ocean into islands. Pick your exact version so the map uses the right generator for your world.

Living on a mushroom island

Hostile mobs do not spawn naturally in mushroom fields, which makes them a safe base without lighting. Mooshrooms graze on the mycelium: shear one for mushrooms, milk it with a bowl for mushroom stew, and a lightning strike turns a red mooshroom brown, whose suspicious stew gives potion effects.

Huge red and brown mushrooms grow on the island and mycelium spreads to nearby dirt. Spawners, raids and structures still bring mobs, and the safety only applies inside the biome itself, so check the highlighted outline before you build.

Questions

Do hostile mobs spawn on mushroom islands?

Not naturally. Mushroom fields have no hostile mob spawning, so zombies, skeletons and creepers will not appear at night. Mobs from spawners, raids or other biomes nearby can still reach you.

Is the mushroom island in the same place on Bedrock?

Yes, from 1.18 onwards Java and Bedrock share the Overworld biome generator, so the same seed puts its mushroom islands in the same spots on both editions.

How far away is the nearest mushroom island?

It depends on the seed. Because they need deep, wide oceans, the nearest one is often one to several thousand blocks from spawn. Zoom the map out to its widest setting to scan quickly.

How do I find one with a command?

With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:mushroom_fields. The map shows all of them at once without cheats, and works before you create the world.
