How to use the Biome Finder
The Biome Finder renders the biome layout of your seed for the Overworld, Nether and End. Pick a biome in the 'Highlight biome' selector to dim everything else and spot the nearest cherry grove, mushroom island, mangrove swamp or deep dark instantly.
- Enter your seed, edition and version, then zoom out to see the whole region around spawn.
- Use the biome legend to identify colours, or hover the map to read the biome name under the cursor.
- Choose a biome under 'Highlight biome'. Everything else is dimmed so the biome you want stands out.
- Copy the coordinates from the readout, or copy a link to share the exact view.
How biomes are placed since 1.18
Since 1.18 the Overworld uses multi-noise biome generation. Six smooth noise maps (temperature, humidity, continentalness, erosion, weirdness and depth) are sampled at every point, and the biome whose climate range best matches those values wins. Continentalness separates oceans from inland areas, erosion flattens or raises terrain, and weirdness picks variants such as the rarer "shattered" or "spiky" biomes.
Because of this, biomes sit next to climate neighbours: deserts border savannas and badlands, snowy biomes border taigas, and jungles sit next to sparse jungles and bamboo jungles. Cave biomes (lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark) use the depth value, so they appear underground beneath unrelated surface biomes.
Rare biomes worth hunting
Mushroom fields need very low continentalness, so they only form far out in the ocean. Ice spikes, eroded badlands, sunflower plains, flower forests and bamboo jungles are rare variants of common biomes. Cherry groves (1.20) are mountain-side biomes, and the pale garden (1.21.4) is a rare dark-forest variant where the creaking spawns.
Underground, the deep dark forms deep beneath mountainous inland terrain and is where ancient cities generate. In the Nether, the five biomes are nether wastes, crimson forest, warped forest, soul sand valley and basalt deltas. The End has the central island plus highlands, midlands, small islands and barrens on the outer islands.

Questions
Are Bedrock biomes the same as Java for the same seed?
Since 1.18 the Overworld biome noise is shared between editions, so the same seed gives the same biome layout. Terrain details and structure placement can still differ.
Why does the map show biomes instead of terrain?
The map shows the underlying biome map at a chosen resolution. This is the information the game uses to decide what generates, and it is much faster to compute than full terrain.
Which biomes are rarest?
Mushroom fields, ice spikes, eroded badlands, cherry groves and pale gardens are among the rarest Overworld biomes. Zoom out and highlight one to see if your seed has it nearby.
Can I find cave biomes like lush caves or the deep dark?
Yes. Cave biomes are evaluated at a depth below the surface. Highlight lush caves, dripstone caves or deep dark to see where they spread underground.
Why do older versions show very different biomes?
Before 1.18, Overworld biomes came from a layer-based generator with different sizes and rules. Choose your exact version so the map matches your world.
